(Half Day Trip)
The secret pools of Kuang Si Waterfall is one of the most popular places to visit in Luang Prabang. Where you won’t be able to escape the beautiful serenity. Enjoy a short hike before arriving at the falls by passing through the Bear Rescue Centre.
“Kuang” means deer and “Si” means dig or screw. Long time ago local people used to tell a folktale about a wise old man who dug a hole to get groundwater for his village, but no one came to help him. So he went back to the village to tell everyone that he saw the golden deer “kuang” living in the hole of limestone where he had been digging for groundwater. All the villagers were so excited to catch the golden deer so all of them came to help him dig. But the more they dug the more water came up, so they kept digging more holes but they couldn’t find any golden deer. After some time, they gave up! And that was how the secret pools of Kuang Si Waterfall were made.
Between November and January the water temperature is very cool. Picnic lunch, swimming and hiking along the short trail of the waterfall are possible. Do not forget to bring your mosquito spray, sunscreen, swimming suit and to wear proper shoes. Tad Sae waterfall can get crowded on weekends and national holidays
